Karamea - A great Day out from Birds Ferry Lodge

When guests are staying with us for 2-3 nights we often suggest a day trip to Karamea which is beside Kajurango National Park. A 1.5 hour scenic drive North along the coastline on a very quiet road with lots of places of interest to stop along the way. Karamea is the end of the Coast Road and feels like the end of the world! It is also the beginning of the Heaphy Track - one of New Zealand’s world famous walks.AS part of your day trip you can take in a round trip to Scotts Beach - arguably one of the best sections of the multi day tramp. During winter it is possible to mountain bike on all or part of the heaphy track. Close by is also another wonder - The Oparara Valley. Here you will see the largest limestone arches in the Southern Hemisphere. One thing you wont find here is crowds of people - locals will even wave at you when they drive past you on the road! Dont forget your camera!
