Punakaiki is a short scenic drive from Birds Ferry Lodge
Punakaiki is famous for its spectacular Pancake Rocks and blowholes. Through a layered weathering process called stylobedding the Dolomite Point limestone has formed into what looks like piles of thick pancakes!
When the tide is high the sea surges into caverns and booms menacingly through the blow holes.
On a wild day be reminded the Mother Nature is boss! This is an easy (paved) 15 minute walk from the carpark .
